Entry #2 - Mediums

Tempera

Tempura art is art made with a mixture of a colored pigment and some sort of binding material, often but not exclusively egg. Tempera is a neat style, because it allows the artist to make their painting have some additional realism. Most of what I've seen has a sort of uncanny-valley feel to it, but it nevertheless is an excellent medium.

Christ Enthroned with Saints - Bernardo Daddi

Digital

Some say that digital art is not art, but I have enjoyed many pieces of digital art, and if I enjoy it, it must be art. Digital art is any piece of art drawn using computer software, commonly photoshop, gimp, or krita. It allows the artist to perfect their piece of art however much they wish, and has much fewer limitations than a more traditional style.

Tiny Bishop and Friend - Owen Cyclops

Ink

A few days ago I was re-watching old Owen Cyclops streams, which fits in nicely with this medium, because in one of his first Orphanim painting hours he did some ink painting. I love the ink style, because greyscale colorschemes look beautiful to me, and it's very easy to add some red it there to really make everything pop, something you see often throughout history in ink painting (and other art forms with black and white. It's something of a primordial theme).

Autumn Landscape - Sesshū Tōyō

Fresco

(I really should have worked in a reference to "the medium is the message" in this entry. Ah well.) The final medium in this article (which is far from covering every one) is the Fresco. There's this prog rock band I used to really like called Agent Fresco, but that has nothing to do with the art form of the fresco. To make a fresco, you paint a mural on wet lime plaster. Some of the most epic paintings in history have been made in this fashion.
