Entry #3 - Moai

Easter Island is one of the most remote places on Earth, located in the middle of the Pacific, thousands of miles from any other land mass. It is also one of the most mysterious places on Earth, thanks to the nearly 900 statues that litter the island. All of them face inland, as if keeping watch over the villagers who live on the land. It is unknown exectly how the islanders moved these immense structures to their designated positions, but it has been hypothesized that they used ropes to rock them, so that they seemed to walk to their place. The stone sculptures are also known to have had some sort of signifigance to the islanders, probably they were believed to protect the villages.
